Human Operation (mins)
This specification deals with the amount of time spent by a worker operating the machine. This is very strongly related to the high degree of automation requirement because the less time spent by workers dealing with the machine the more automated the process is.
Horizontal Carriage (m)
This specification is the horizontal length of the machine. This relates very strongly to two of the requirements. First the machine must be sufficient size to service the entire link, and the longer it is the more floor space is going to be covered, therefore there is also a strong relationship between the horizontal length of the machine and minimizing floor usage.
Vertical Carriage (m)
This specification deals with the vertical height of the machine. This is strongly related to the machine being sufficient size for the links. As well there is a weak relationship between the vertical height and minimizing floor usage because if the machine is very tall, supports may be needed at ground level which will need to be placed away from the machine and angled towards the machine. Also the vertical axis allows the complex end geometry to be covered, moderate relation, and therefore attach the joint to the link, weak relationship.
Eye Rotation (deg)
The eye rotation specification deals with the rotation of the eye which will dispense the resin impregnated filament. There are two strong relationships with the requirements which deal with the ability to do complex geometries and maintain constant torsion and tension on the filament. It is also moderately related to integrating the joint and link together.
Cross Feed Carriage (m)
The cross feed carriage allows the machine to wrap around the corners of the link. This specification has a strong relationship with the requirements which state the joint must be integrated to the link as well as the machine must service complex geometries around the ends of the work piece. There is also a weak relationship with maintaining the tension and torsion on the filament and a moderate relationship with being able to service a very large work part.
Eye Yaw Rotation (deg)
The eye yaw rotation measurement is the rotation around the vertical axis at the eye. It is strongly related to the joint being integrated to the link and wrapping around complex geometries because it allows the filament to be turned so it can lay flat on the work piece. There is also a moderate relationship with maintaining the tension and torsion of the filament because the specification deals with the eye.
Curing Temperature (K)
Curing temperature is the temperature at which the resin will harden. This is strongly related to the resin not curing before the actual application of it as this would result in the part not being wrapped as strongly.
Mandrel Weight Capacity (kg)
The mandrel weight capacity must be able to hold the weight of the work piece which will be the link and joint which relates strongly to the requirement which states the machine must be able to handle the weight of the link and other materials.
Carriage Weight Capacity (kg)
The spindle weight capacity is very similar to the mandrel weight capacity, and it as well has a strong relationship with the machines ability to handle the weight of the link and other materials because it must be able to spin as the link.
Repeatability (mm)
The repeatability of the process is very strongly related to the requirement that the process have high repeatability and accuracy. There is also a moderate relationship with keeping the tension and torsion constant on the filament so the link is coated evenly by the filament. Also a weak relationship with high degree of automation because the more automated the process the more accurate it is going to be.
Floor Usage (m2)
The floor usage is strongly related to minimizing the floor space used up by the machine. There is a moderate relationship with the size of the machine being sufficient enough to be able to wrap the entire link. It also relates to the ability to hold the weight of the link and other materials but the relationship is only weak.
